I AM THE THIRD REVELATIONNNNN

Movies movies movies I like movies

Wed Oct 21, 2009, 6:29 PM
stealing idea from :iconradioactivemongoose: because I'm a whore like that. And I know you all care.
AND NOW YOU CAN JUDGE ME ON MY MOVIE CHOICES
YAAAAAY

10. HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE

Does this really need any explanation? Beautiful animation, storyline, EVERYTHING. I love it.

9. THE SOUND OF MUSIC

My favorite musical-movie adaptation. I love lots of others too (Cabaret, Rocky Horror, Grease), but this one is just classic. I never get tired of it. Julie Andrews is perfection and Christopher Plummer is primo eye-candy. Fabulous songs, clothing, Austrian landscapes, and the scene where they're hiding from Nazis is totally terrifying (+1 for alliteration) IN A GOOD WAY.

8. KISS KISS BANG BANG

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. This is a hilarious, sexy, clever movie. Robert Downey Jr. is amazing in everything he is, but this one is just perfection in every way. I enjoy the narration especially.

7. THE PAINTED VEIL

Probably one of the best book adaptations I've ever seen. I'm a bad kid and read the book after I'd seen the movie, but tbh I didn't even want to see this movie to begin with, but my mom dragged me there and I ended up loving it. Of course. haha. Every actor is absolutely perfect for thier roles, especially Edward Norton (duh) and Toby Jones. Also, soundtrack is beautiful. mmm pianos.

6. CLUE

I love this movie SO HARD. Tim Curry is fan-fucking-tastic, and everthing about this movie is absolutely hilarious. Also, the maid's cleavage? Beautiful. If you're into that sort of thing.

5. FIGHT CLUB

I don't really know what to say about this one. Ok I do. EYE-CANDY EYE-CANDY EYE-CANDY. Or if you don't want to be so shallow, crazy intelligent story (thanks, Chuck Palahniuk, speaking of, I haven't read the book. oops.), wonderful cast, one of the greatest ending scenes (imo) of all time, and fighting!!

4. SHAUN OF THE DEAD

First off, anything that Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright does is genius. Hilarious, hilarious genius. Shaun of the Dead is mad adorable and takes you through a roller-coaster of emotions (if you're me) IN A GOOD WAY. P.S. Zombies!!

3. WATCHMEN

I really really loved this movie. The cheesiness, incredibly inappropiate music (oh hay Hallelujah), overuse of slo-mo, and stupid gore. I LOVED IT. I DON'T EVEN CARE. All the actors were sexy fabulous (see above). HEY I EVEN FORGIVE YOU, MALIN. BECAUSE THE HOTNESS OF THE ~BOYS~ MADE UP FOR YOU. Yeah, there aren't too many intelligent thoughts on this, because it wasn't the most intelligent. It was just a very entertaining, good (imo. again.) adaptation of a nearly un-adaptable GN.

2. LA VIE EN ROSE

I seriously love every single thing about this movie. The scenery, the clothing, the music, the actors, the language. EVERYTHING. Edith Piaf's life was beautifully tragic, and Marion Cotillard does a fucking BRILLIANT job of portraying her.

1. THERE WILL BE BLOOD

This is, uh, a very cathartic movie for me. I don't really know what to say about it other than that. Well, ok, all the acting is top-notch, obviously from DDL, but Paul Dano and the little boy (forgot his name. Sorry. YOU'RE JUST A BASTARD IN A BASKET) do wonderful jobs as well. And you know being able to compete with DDL on screen means you're doing something right.

and there it is. Sorry I wrote so much about everything. But yeah, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND all these movies. plz don't judge me too hard about my movie choices.

read a motherfuckin' book

Sun Oct 18, 2009, 12:00 PM
A LIT MEME FOR ALL THE BOOK NERDS:

. So, you can read! Congrats!
Are you reading a book right now? How far are you into it and what do you think so far? If you're not, what was the last book you read and how did you feel about it?
I'm reading The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I'm about 300 pages in, ugh I'm going through it so slowly, but I like it.

. Do you have a favorite book? Do you have... a book you really liked, at least?
I'd say Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov is one of my favorites.

. What would you say is your favorite genre to read? What to tend to steer away from?
idk if I really have a favorite genre. I don't really like mysteries though.

. Do you read more fiction or non-fiction/information books?
Fiction most definitely.

. How about a favorite author, or perhaps a few?
Terry Pratchett, Gregory Maguire.

. Have you read any terrible books? Something you'd recommend staying away from?
Twilight..? hahahah. The Awakening was kind of enraging just because I hated the main character. WhosenameIforgot. I didn't like Love in the Time of Cholera either.\

. Do you reread books, or is once enough? Any exceptions so far?
I reread books all the time. If I like a book there is a 99% chance I will read it again.

. What were some of your favorite books as a child?
HARRY POTTER DUH. Fairytales, those mystery tree-house books, the ones where they went back in time? dude, I loved those. Most everything by L.M. Montgomery, Little House on the Prarie books. Golden books were the shiitttt. Even though thier spines were silver, which always confused me, because they're called GOLDEN books. Oh, and the Ramona Quimby books. yesss.

. Do you usually pick books from the kids, teen, young adult, or adult books? How old are you, if you don't mind?
I'm 19, and I pick books from the ~adult~ section. I never really went for the young adult books. I read kid chapter books for way too long.

. Do you buy books much or mostly just borrow?
Mostly borrow, but I love to buy books.

. Have you read any books after seeing them in movie form? Which did you enjoy more?
Yeah, Sweeney Todd, The Painted Veil, Howl's Moving Castle, Phantom of the Opera, and that's all I can think of right now. I liked the book better each time except for Sweeney. That book was mad boring.

. What about reading the book before there was a movie? How did you feel about the movie? Did you even bother seeing it?
Yeah, I usually always see the movie made from a book I've read (and liked). The movie is usually less good, although the HP movies are hilarious.

. Do you read any other forms of literature aside from novels? Such as graphic novels, comics, (fan fiction???) etc.?
Uh, well, Watchmen? I read comics and GNs sometimes, but I'd say 95% of what I read are novels. And who doesn't read fanfiction? C'mon.

. What is a book you want to read, but haven't yet? What intrigues you about it?
The Great Gatsby, it's a ~classic~. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, why WOULDN'T I want to read it? And World War Z. mmm zombies.

. If you could rewrite the end of one book (or any other part, I suppose), which would you choose? If you were satisfied with every book you read's end, yay.
I can't really think of any book that I would rewrite. hm.

If you can think of one, name a book that made you:
- cry: There have been a lot because I am a girly woman child, but we'll go with Phantom of the Opera

- laugh: Him Her Him Again The End of Him

- think, in a deeper sense than the obvious: oh jeez. I can't really think of anything.

- feel pure happiness: um, idk. A lot of books made me happy, but I'd say Norman Rockwell's autobiography made me consistently happy.

- become so addicted you put off everything in order to finish it: The 13th Tale

- die of boredom: Sweeney Todd. jfc I regret reading this during my ~Sweeney Todd~ phase.

- learn something new: Bosie: the Biography of Lord Alfred Douglas I learned all about Bosie.

- squirm with squickiness: Running with Scissors That book was insane. Good, but insane.

- squirm with glee: Jane Eyre ahah. not even gonna lie.

- very embarrassed to be reading it: The A to Z Encylcopedia of Serial Killers

- angry: Love in the Time of Cholera and The Awakening again. I just hated the main characters.

YAY READING

Second: first for real art-school art project done. critique is tomorrow. kinda terrified. MY PROJECT SUCKS BALLS. ohhoohho
Third: david bowie I'm madly in love with you and I want you to adopt me.
fourth: I think I had other pointless shit to say, but I, uh, forgot it. so. SO I FUCKING REMEMBERED. TWITTER. do any of you fine ladies and gentlemen have twitters? if so, ~*~*LET'S BE FRIENDS*~*~ mine: twitter.com/maddypreston C:

TO-DO:
- Dan Dreiberg and Adrian Veidt as Lovecraft-esque supernatural investigators in the 1920's. for :iconflyingrat42:

- OC ([link], Relating somehow to this song [link]) for :iconyautjapet1313:

- Edward Cullen in '70s gym-shorts for :iconwindwolf7:

P.S. I miss ed norton. I'm thinkin' of saying goodbye to littleoldmanboy. idk, what do y'all think? I think he's hilarious, but I miss Mr. Norton.
WHICH REMINDS ME. there is a nerdier, plumper, more mormony version of ed norton who rides the bus with me sometimes. it amuses me to no end.
and a taller, fatter version of paul dano in one of my art history classes. he's less amusing. :C
I am a horrible person who judges others. yes.
P.P.S polls are interesting. 56 people voted in my zombie poll. I was not even aware that many sentient beings watched me. HOW PECULIAR~
